PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif has gathered the support of 199 MPAs, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz claimed that Hamza Shehbaz had been ‘elected’ the chief minister of Punjab and she extended greetings to the people of Punjab.

The opposition session, at a private hotel, after the Punjab Assembly was sealed off and the building's main gate was locked, questioned the legality of the session and the victory of Hamza.

Flanked by Hamza Shehbaz, Maryam Nawaz told the media that the assembly session can be held anywhere and it has been proved that the PTI is not enjoying public support.

She came down hard on the PTI government for depriving Punjab of development in Usman Buzdar’s term as the chief executive of the province.

She said just Farah Gujjar‘s village was uplifted and she questioned why she was obliged.

She also questioned why a seasoned politician, Parvez Elahi, stood by Imran Khan.

The daughter of the former prime minister rapped PTI premier for promoting favoritism and violating the constitution.

She blamed all problems on Imran Khan, saying that in his regime, corruption, load shedding, poverty, lawlessness, and joblessness remained on the prowl. She listed the PML-N government feats and hoped that his party rule will return soon.

Imran Khan raised the treat issue just to prolong his premiership, she said. As she greeted Hamza, she got emotional

Earlier in the day, Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari called the session for chief minister election at a local hotel near the assembly after he was denied entry. He told the media that he will try his best to conduct the CM election.

He said, “I reached here to discharge my duties. I called the session at 7:30 today. I called the meeting using my powers in accordance with the law.

"I have arrived to do my job. I am with PTI but the party wants me to leave it. “Shehbaz Gul is the biggest liar."

The PTI submitted a no-confidence motion against its own deputy speaker of the provincial assembly and after which the deputy speaker cannot summon the assembly session.

A large contingent of police has been deployed outside the assembly, with personnel carrying batons and shields. Water cannons and Rescue 1122 vehicles have also been parked outside the assembly's building.

The development coincides with the submission of a no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost, after he said the session for the chief minister's election would take place tonight at 7:30 pm, but a spokesperson for the provincial assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) denied the development.

A big rift appeared in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the party brought a no-confidence motion against its own Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari. However, Dost Mazari asserted that he still could chair the session of the assembly despite a no-confidence motion against him.

Also, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a no-confidence motion against Punjab Assembly Speaker and PTI candidate for chief minister slot Pervaiz Elahi. PML-N delegation comprising Khawaja Salman Rafique, Samiullah Khan, Khalik Zahir Sindhu, and Maulana Pir Ashraf Rasool visited Punjab Assembly Secretariat and filed the no-trust motion with the assembly secretary.
