PTI govt readies ordinance for Senate open voting
Federal Cabinet also gives nod to open ballotting
After the president’s signatures, the ordinance can be promulgated.
Another TV channel reported that the government will issue the ordinance only if the Supreme Court, which is hearing a presidential reference regarding holding of Senate election via open voting, gives a favourable ruling before February 11.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had advocated that through open voting the government wanted to discourage horse-trading in elections for the Upper House of the Parliament.
The government on Wednesday last had tabled the 26th constitutional amendment bill in the National Assembly seeking open balloting in the elections for the Upper House of the Parliament. Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem had presented the bill amid loud sloganeering and protest by the opposition benches.
