FIA arrests suspected human trafficker in Gujranwala

The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested a suspected human trafficker, Zafar Abbas alias Irfan Jogi, during an operation in Gujranwala.

According to the FIA Gujranwala Zone, the suspect was arrested by the FIA Gujrat Circle on the request of the heirs of a victim.

Officials said the suspect allegedly received Rs100,000 from a citizen after promising to send him to Turkey through legal means.

The FIA said the victim was instead smuggled illegally through Iran.

Officials said contact with the victim was lost after Feb. 12, 2020. His death was later confirmed by the Pakistani Embassy in Ankara.

The FIA said Zafar Abbas had also been formally arrested in eight other human trafficking cases.

Further legal action against the suspect is underway.
