PPP-govt talks on budget postponed

Today's talks between the federal government and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on budget-related matters have been postponed and are now likely to take place tomorrow, according to sources.

Sources said that before the formal discussions with the government, President Asif Ali Zardari will hold a meeting with the PPP's negotiation team to review the party's position and strategy.

The meeting is expected to be attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar and Senator Sherry Rehman.

According to sources, the timing of the meeting between the PPP and the government team will be finalized after the party's internal consultation.

Sources revealed that the federal government is seeking funds amounting to Rs1.7 trillion from the provinces. The availability of these funds is considered crucial for finalizing the federal budget.

Officials familiar with the discussions said that the federal budget will be finalized only after clarity is achieved regarding the transfer of the required funds from the provinces.

The upcoming talks are expected to focus on financial arrangements and key budgetary issues ahead of the announcement of the federal budget.
