Balochistan Governor refuses to resign on PM’s instructions
The political crisis in Balochistan shows no sign of abating as provincial governor Amanullah Yasinzai has refused to resign even on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s instructions, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Quoting sources, the TV channel reported that the governor had insisted that he would resign only when President Dr Arif Alvi would ask him to do so.
“Country’s president, and not the prime minister, is authorised to ask somebody for the resignation. The country’s affairs should be run as per the constitution,” the sources quoted him as saying.
The sources further disclosed that the prime minister would finalise the name for the seat of governor after his return from Saudi Arabia as PTI bigwigs consider new names for the position.
A few days ago, Prime Minister Imran Khan had asked Balochistan Governor Justice (retd) Amanullah Khan Yasinzai to step down.
The PM wrote a letter to the governor, saying that he intends to appoint a new governor in the view of transforming political challenges. He said he was unable to see the governor in person due to the prevalent Covid-19 situation in the country.
