CM Maryam reviews progress on completion of roads across Punjab

Punjab has set a new national record for the speed of development as 1,129 roads were completed in just 75 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a review meeting of Communication Department in Lahore on Tuesday, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, it was briefed that a total of 32,000 roads were completed in the two and a half years.

A record 6,000 kilometers of roads were laid from April to July this year.

Maryam Nawaz directed to give a final timeline for the completion of all under-construction roads across Punjab.

She said that international standard service areas should be built on the Ring Road and proper lane marking should be ensured on all highways of Punjab at all costs.

The meeting was briefed that huge savings of Rs11 billion made in road restoration projects.

About 93.5 km long Multan-Vehari dual road project completed while 24 km long Faisalabad-Chiniot dual road project also completed and 13 km long tourism highway dual road completed to promote tourism.

Further, 86 schemes of Road Restoration Programme Phase-I completed up to 77 percent and 31 percent work completed on 41 schemes of Road Restoration Programme Phase-II.

The meeting was briefed that all 124 flood-affected roads completely restored.

The meeting gave approval to establish 6 new modern service areas under Punjab Ring Road Authority and revenue of Rs500 million annually expected from new service areas.

The meeting also approved plan for beautification of Ring Road and rehabilitation of Northern Loop.

All 6 service areas to be fully functional by December this year.

A plan for beautification of entry and exit points of roads across Punjab was presented in the meeting. 

As many as 42 new road construction schemes included in the new financial programme and Rs 17 billion approved for local roads and Rs17.23 billion for Chief Minister's Initiative. 

A total of 907 schemes approved under public-private partnership, including Faisalabad to Chiniot Phase II. 

The meeting decided immediate construction and rehabilitation of flood-affected local roads. 

Incomplete and underfunded roads of previous governments to be completed with Rs14 billion. 

Funds of Rs51 billion approved for construction of new roads in Punjab. 

Department of Communications and Works presented a commemorative souvenir to Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
