PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday asked NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Abbasi to resign instead of issuing notices to political rivals.
“Instead of sending notices to political rivals, a notice should be issued to the NAB-Niazi nexus and for the closure of the organisation having a dark role,” said Marriyum in a statement.
She recalled that it had been written in a Supreme Court judgment [on the bail granted to PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique] that the NAB carried out media trial.
The court had already directed that no news should be aired or published until a reference was filed, the PML-N spokesperson also noted.
Marriyum said the NAB’s practice of getting news aired through sources was a violation and insult of the higher judiciary’s decisions. “Why NAB is still functioning after the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Khawaja Saad Rafique case,” she questioned.
The NAB had become a symbol of injustice, revenge and mala fide intention, she said and added that how the anti-graft body could send notices after the Supreme Court’s judgments and the Human Rights Watch report.
Similarly, PPP demanded making the details of NAB officials’ appointments, degrees and qualifications public, as the party’s information secretary, Nafisa Shah, said the apex court’s remarks on the subject could not be ignored.
“The NAB has proven to be a political engineering organisation,” she said and added that the favourite persons were assigned the task of carrying of targeted victimisation of opponents.
