Pakistan to send back 19,973 Afghan refugees awaiting settlement to US

Pakistan has decided to send back 19,973 Afghan refugees, who are awaiting settlement to the United States, to Afghanistan, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.

Federal Interior Ministry has decided to write a letter to the provinces for the return of Afghan citizens.

The sources said a letter will be written to all provincial chief secretaries, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, police IGs of all provinces including Azad Kashmir, GB, Islamabad. The Federal Interior Ministry will also write a letter to the Chief Commissioner Islamabad.

Thousands of Afghan citizens living in Pakistan are waiting to settle in the US but it seemed that US was not keen to accommodate them.

In this regard, the process of sending Afghan citizens to their home country will be initiated. The US evacuated thousands of Afghans from Afghanistan in 2021 after the victory of Taliban regime. Afghans working for the US were evacuated from Afghanistan. They feared retaliation by the new Afghan government.
