PTA warns mobile phone users over SIM misuse threat

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a strong warning to mobile phone users regarding the security and legal use of their SIM cards, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Sunday.

In a statement shared on the social media platform Facebook, PTA urged all users to ensure that their SIM cards are registered under their own names.

The authority emphasised that no SIM should be in use by any unauthorised individual or stranger.

According to PTA, criminal elements are exploiting stolen personal information to illegally obtain SIM cards in others’ names.

These illegally acquired SIMs may then be used for various fraudulent activities, including serious crimes and acts of terrorism.

The telecom regulator further advised that if there is any SIM registered under your name that you are not actively using, it should be blocked immediately to avoid misuse.

PTA concluded by stressing the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the transparent and lawful use of mobile SIMs.

This, they said, is crucial to ensure that only the rightful users benefit from mobile services and that national security is not compromised.
