Election Commission orders re-polling in five Gilgit-Baltistan constituencies

The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has withheld election results in five constituencies and ordered re-polling at selected polling stations, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. 

Addressing a press conference today, Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz said that Form-47s for all constituencies had been completed, but re-polling had been ordered at specific polling stations in five constituencies due to electoral concerns.

He said the final results of the affected constituencies would remain on hold until the re-polling process is completed.

Voting at the designated polling stations will take place on June 15, after which the relevant Form-47 and Form-48 documents will be issued.

According to the Election Commission, re-polling will be conducted at 10 polling stations in GBA-8, one polling station in GBA-13 (Astore), one in GBA-15 (Diamer-I), three in GBA-16 (Diamer-II), and 11 polling stations in GBA-17 (Diamer-III).

The commission said final results for these constituencies would be compiled only after the re-polling results are included in the overall count.

Under an official notification issued on June 8, the opening and counting of postal ballots in the affected constituencies will remain suspended until the re-polling process is completed.

The Election Commission has also directed the concerned returning officers not to issue final results for the affected seats until further orders.
