UET student’s death due to negligence sparks protest

The sudden death of a student at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has triggered widespread concern among students, raising serious questions about the availability of emergency medical services on campus, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Fahad, a Computer Engineering student from Session 25, reportedly began experiencing intense stomach pain along with a sharp drop in blood pressure while at the university. Classmates say his condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting fellow students to seek urgent medical help.

However, according to students present at the scene, immediate medical assistance was not readily available.

They allege that the absence of a functioning ambulance on campus led to a critical delay in transferring the student to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses also claimed that the response from some staff members appeared slow during the emergency, which further fueled frustration among students who were trying to secure urgent treatment for their classmate.

Despite eventually being transported to a hospital in Lahore, Fahad could not survive. News of his death quickly spread across campus and social media, leaving many students in shock and grief.

Student groups and classmates have since demanded a transparent investigation into the incident.

They argue that the tragedy highlights serious gaps in the university’s emergency preparedness and healthcare support for students.

Vice Chancellor of the University constituted a probe committee under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammad Shoaib to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shehzad and Dr. Abdul Sami, Assistant Professor, Management Science Department, are members of the committee.
