The government promised swift action after three workers died when a fire erupted at a yarn factory in Baldia Sector 5 of Karachi on Wednesday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sindh Auqaf Minister Suhail Ahmad Siyal assured swift action against those whose negligence resulted in the death of the labourers.
Fire-brigade teams along with four fire tenders and a snorkel were rushed to the scene immediately. It took six hours for the firefighting teams to douse the fire. A firefighter was also injured in the fire.
The area people expressed their anger as, according to them, the firefighters reached the factory very late.
A fire officer told the media that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. He pointed out that the fire security measures were not in place. There was no emergency gate in the factory’s multi-storey building, whereas, only one route was made available for entrance and exit purposes, he added.
According to rescue officials, the fire started inside the three-storey building late Wednesday night. The factory has been completely burnt and owners have suffered losses worth millions of rupees. The police have arrested the owners.
After the incident, Sindh minister Sohail Anwar Siyal reached the factory site and overlooked the situation. Talking to the media, he said that it looks like the fire started because of a short circuit. "We will only be able to stay something substantial after the investigation is completed," he pointed out.
The dead labourers were identified as Sher Ali, Kazim and Fayyaz.
