Gifts given to bride constitute her property: SC

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday said that as per the Islamic law the gifts a husband gives to his wife on the occasion of their marriage cannot be taken back and that these constitute her property, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

In his 12-page written order in a case pertaining to a property dispute, Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the apex court said in Islam a woman has complete right to own property and do business.

The court further said that under Islamic law a woman has a right to inherit property from her father and her husband.

It ordered men to write down will in order to give them share in their properties. 

The apex court noted with regret that usually in Pakistan Quranic teachings were not adhered to. 

References to Quranic verses have also been made in the verdict.
