President Arif Alvi Tuesday demanded an investigation into the alleged plot to overthrow the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

President Alvi has suggested to set up a judicial commission to probe the conspiracy. He also proposed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to hear the ‘cablegate’ case.

The president was responding to a letter sent to him by PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Alvi was of the opinion that the sovereignty of the country was severely damaged, stressing the need to investigate the matter thoroughly.

He said it was important that masses would be made aware of the details of the conspiracy and the matter should reach its logical conclusion after launching a thorough probe into it.

President Alvi said he had read the copy of the cipher sent by former Pakistan ambassador to the US, adding that the cipher chronicled the summary of Pakistan envoy’s meeting with US official Donald Lu.

In the cipher report, complete threatening statements of Mr Lu had been reported, especially it mentioned the no-confidence motion against then prime minister Imran Khan, the president said.
