National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Tuesday wrote a letter to former Prime Minister Imran Khan to appear before him for confirming his resignation from the parliamentarianship.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, NA Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf held a media briefing and said the procedure of confirmation of the resignation of PTI lawmakers is going on.

He confirmed that he had written letters to all the PTI members including Imran Khan who have tendered their resignations to appear before him for confirmation of the act.

The NA Speaker confirmed that Imran Khan is still a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) so he will also have to confirm his resignation in person. He said letters have been sent to them.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said whether PTI members have resigned or not, should appear in the Speaker’s chamber for confirmation of their will in this regard.

He further said as per the rules, a resignation must be handwritten by the member of the national assembly (MNA).

If the PTI members do not confirm their resignations, he will make his decision, the NA Speaker added.

About the appointment of the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, he said whoever has more members of the opposition benches will be made the Leader of the Opposition.

The NA speaker said a 30-member parliamentary committee will be formed for electoral reform, adding that the committee will consist of 10 members from the Senate and 20 members from the NA.

For getting the names, letters have been written to all parliamentary leaders including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, he said.

Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said the process of electoral reform will be taken forward during the budget session as the decision about the next general elections will be taken after the electoral reforms.
