NADRA urges citizens to safeguard CNICs against misuse

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has advised citizens to take precautionary measures to prevent the misuse of their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and personal information.

In a social media message, NADRA urged citizens not to hand over their CNICs to anyone as collateral and not to accept another person’s CNIC as security.

The authority also advised people to avoid making unnecessary photocopies of their identity cards.

NADRA said that if providing a photocopy of a CNIC was unavoidable, citizens should clearly write the purpose for which it was being provided and destroy the copy once it was no longer needed.

It also warned citizens to remain vigilant against individuals seeking personal information through fake phone calls, text messages and social media.

NADRA said citizens could contact its helpline at 1777 for further guidance or to lodge complaints.
