Municipal workers announce protest over pay and pension issues on Jan 20

The Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance (MWTUA) has announced its first protest of the year, with workers demanding pending dues for retired employees, increases in pensions, and the implementation of previously announced salary hikes for serving staff.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the protest has been scheduled for January 20 outside the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) head office on MA Jinnah Road.

Speaking to the media, Zulfiqar Shah, president of the Alliance, said the demonstration will highlight the failure of the Sindh government and KMC to fulfil promises regarding employee remuneration.

He added that official letters informing both the provincial government and KMC have already been sent regarding the planned protest.

Municipal employees across Sindh are reportedly preparing to participate in the rally, marking the first major labour action of 2026.

The Alliance has emphasised that the protest will be peaceful but firm, aimed at securing long-overdue pay increases and pension adjustments.
