Govt massively hikes basic electricity tariffs for commercial and agricultural consumers

The federal government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Shehbaz Sharif dropped the electricity bomb again as his cabinet on Thursday approved increased tariffs for commercial and agricultural consumers.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the basic electricity price for commercial consumers has been raised by 8.04 rupees per unit.
As per the details, for agricultural consumers, the basic electricity tariff has been increased by Rs6.62 per unit.
The channel said the general services will see a rise of Rs6.98 per unit and large consumers will face an increase of Rs5.51 per unit.
The channel reported that the basic electricity tariff for industrial consumers remains unchanged.
It is worth mentioning that in compliance with another condition of the International Monitory Fund (IMF), the Federal Cabinet has already approved a significant increase in the basic electricity tariff by Rs5.72 per unit on July 04.
After this approval, the power tariff has risen from Rs29.78 per unit to Rs35.50 per unit.
As per the channel report, the increase in the price of electricity is set for the current fiscal year, with the additional amount to be paid starting from July 1.
