Proclaimed murder suspect arrested after 26 years through Interpol
A proclaimed offender in a murder case has been arrested after 26 years in a joint operation involving the Hafizabad Police and Interpol, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the suspect, Ali Muhammad alias Shafqat, was apprehended in Muscat, Oman, through the Interpol Special Operation Cell.
The accused had been wanted in connection with the murder of a citizen, Allah Ditta, committed in the year 2000.
Police officials said that after the murder, the suspect went into hiding abroad to evade arrest and remained out of the reach of law enforcement agencies for more than two decades.
The arrest was made possible through sustained efforts by the police, coordinated intelligence gathering and effective international cooperation.
The Special Operation Cell Hafizabad formally approached Interpol, following which a red warrant was issued against the accused, leading to his arrest in Oman.
The District Police Officer (DPO) said the successful international operation was clear evidence of the professional competence and commitment of the Hafizabad Police.
