The Sindh High Court has declared the powers of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman without as illegal, reported 24NewsTV channel.

The Sindh High Court on Friday heard a case regarding the suspension of TV channels’ licences by the PEMRA chief.

While deciding the case, the high court termed the out-of-rules powers of the PEMRA head as illegal

The Pakistan Broadcasting Association submitted a petition against the powers of the media regulatory body’s chairman to Sindh High Court.

The decision was announced by a two-member bench of the high court headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar.

The court pronounced that without making rules, the PEMRA chairman could not invoke Section 13.

The PBA informed the court that the PEMRA chief suspended TV channels’ licences under Section 13 of the PEMRA rules

The broadcasting association has challenged the PEMRA chief’s April 24, 2020 decision.
