Doctor killed in Karachi bank robbery

A 28-year-old doctor was killed during a bank robbery in Karachi's Clifton area after armed robbers opened fire outside a bank and escaped with Rs2.5 million in cash, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday. 

SSP South Mahzoor Ali said the victim, identified as Dr Akash, had withdrawn Rs 5 million from a private bank near Teen Talwar along with his father and an associate.

The group was heading to another bank in the Boat Basin area to deposit the money when armed assailants attacked their vehicle outside the bank.

According to police, a security guard stationed at the bank opened fire in an attempt to stop the robbers, who returned fire.

During the exchange of gunfire, Dr Akash was fatally shot.

The robbers managed to snatch one bag containing Rs2.5 million before fleeing the scene.

Police said an investigation is being conducted from all angles, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects at the earliest.

Authorities confirmed that the deceased was a 28-year-old doctor who had accompanied his father to withdraw the cash.

The security guard who fired during the incident has been taken into custody as part of the investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
