Iran launches missile attack on Israel

Iranian state television said the country's forces launched "missile attacks" at Israel on Friday, in response to a wave of Israeli attacks on its territory.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they launched an attack on dozens of targets in Israel after its large scale attack on the Islamic Republic in their Operation Majazaat-e-Shadee..

"The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps... has executed its decisive and precise response against tens of targets, military centres and airbases of the usurping Zionist regime in the occupied territories," the Guards said in a statement carried by state media.

An Iranian senior official has told Reuters that “nowhere in Israel will be safe, our revenge will be painful”.

The official is reported to have told the news agency that Israel “will pay a high price for killing our commanders, scientists and people”.

The announcement of the "start of Iranian missile attacks" on state TV, confirming earlier reports, came shortly after a televised speech by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in which he promised that "the Islamic Republic will prevail over the Zionist regime".

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Israel's deadly attacks on his country will "bring it to ruin", vowing retaliation.

"The armed forces of the Islamic republic will inflict heavy blows upon this malevolent enemy," Khamenei said in a televised speech, adding that the consequences of the Israeli attack "will bring it to ruin".

A thick plume of smoke billowed over the coastal Israeli city of Tel Aviv after Iranian missile fire, an AFP journalist reported, following a wave of Israeli attacks on Iran.

The smoke towered over the city's skyscrapers as blasts echoed across the city, the journalist said.

A modern apartment block has been hit in central Tel Aviv, and according to live footage from the scene, fires still appear to be raging inside some of the apartments, with smoke billowing from the building.

Another residential building, next to the apartment block, also appears to have suffered significant damage, with windows blown and pieces of twisted metal hanging from its exterior.

Emergency services are at the site and the streets around the building appear to be cordoned off from the pubic who have been instructed to remain in shelters.

Air raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem and loud blasts were heard, AFP journalists reported, as the Israeli military said it had detected a missile launched from Iran.

"A short while ago, sirens sounded in several areas across Israel following the identification of missiles from Iran toward the State of Israel," the military said in a statement, with AFP journalists reporting booms over Jerusalem, similar to those heard during past interceptions.

Israel’s Channel 13 reports a fire near Israel’s Defence Ministry headquarters in Tel Aviv, while Israel Hayom reports that rockets fell across seven areas in central Israel.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing the emergency services in Israel, reports that at least one person has been wounded in an Iranian missile attack.

Israel's military said that dozens of "additional missiles" were launched, shortly after a salvo of missiles from Iran were intercepted or made impact throughout the country.

"The attack is ongoing. Dozens of additional missiles were launched toward the State of Israel," the military said in a statement, informing the public that "the explosions you are hearing are from interceptions or fallen projectiles".

Iranian state media said the country's forces downed two Israeli fighter jets, during a massive Israeli air raid.

"At least two Israeli fighter jets were shot down in Iranian skies," the official IRNA news agency reported, without elaborating.

The Israeli military said its strike on Iran's nuclear facility in Isfahan on Friday dismantled infrastructure for reconverting enriched uranium.

Israeli "fighter jets completed a strike on the Iranian regime's nuclear site in the Isfahan area," a military statement said, adding that "the strike dismantled a facility for producing metallic uranium, infrastructure for reconverting enriched uranium, laboratories, and additional infrastructure."
