Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah have challenged the district monitoring officer’s decision to fine for violation for election code.

According to 24NewsHD TV channel, they appealed to the Election Commission for annulling the decision.

Bilawal Bhutto in his appeal said the party’s founding day in Peshawar was not an election rally and the election code of conduct does not prohibit political activities.

The PPP chairman and other party leaders were fined Rs50,000 for violating the election code of conduct during a rally in Peshawar last week. Khurshid Shah, Nisar Khorro and Saad Ghani also filed an appeal against the decision.

The PPP held the event to mark the party's foundation day,

The officer said the PPP leaders violated section 30 of the code of conduct, which states: "The executive authorities in the federation and in the provinces and elected representatives of a local government shall neither use state resources in any constituency where an election is being held for the unfair advantage of a particular candidate or political party nor exercise undue influence affecting the interest of a candidate or party for participating in any election."
