Using a mobile phone proved costly to a woman in Karachi when her husband wounded her seriously after repeatedly stabbing her with a knife after he saw her using the gadget, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

Ijaz repeatedly attacked his wife Saima with a knife in Jumma Khan Goth of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block No 11 when he saw her talking to somebody on the mobile phone.

Ijaz, who had married Saima six years ago, had banned his wife from meeting with her relatives, even on the occasions of happiness or grief.

Ijaz works at a restaurant and has three children.

Quoting landlord of the house, Saima's cousin said that Saima had told her that she had been beaten up by her husband Ijaz, and then she fainted afterwards.

Soon after the incident, neighbours reached the couple’s home and dialed 15 to intimate police about the incident.

Police took Ijaz into custody and shifted Saima to Jinnah Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.
