University of Lahore adopts online teaching

The University of Lahore has decided to start Learning Management System (LMS) aka online mode of teaching for students as a substitute to on-campus teaching amid the campuses closed till April 5th due to novel coronavirus threat. 

The Punjab government had already announced to close down all schools, universities and religious seminaries till April 5th. The decision was taken after Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired National Security Committee (NSC) on Friday and decided to ban all large public gatherings and directed to close down all universities, schools and religious seminaries.

University of Lahore in a Facebook post notified that, “As per directions of Higher Education Commission to prepare Online Teaching System, as a substitute to regular classes, and to establish Learning Management System (LMS), the university will prefer to shift to online classes.”

The UoL announced said, “The University of Lahore will start preparing to shift to online classes in due course of time. The faculty and administrative staff will continue to perform their duties as usual and will keep attending the university .The university will keep monitoring the situation and will provide ongoing guidance to the students, faculty and staff.”

“In pursuance of the decision taken by the Government of Pakistan in wake of declaration of COVID- 19 pandemic by World Health Organisation (WHO), the competent authority has decided that classwork for the students of the University of Lahore and its Sub Campuses will remain suspended from March 14, 2020 till April 5, 2020,” UoL said.

On the other hand, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) has directed its faculty members to make sure their attendance as per their normal working hours, as per the Higher Education Commission (HEC) directives.  

HEC has directed all universities that, “During the suspension of academic activities at universities/ degree awarding institutions across Pakistan, faculty and non-faculty staff will attend their respective institutions as per their normal working hours”.
