Cop, providing security to polio team, killed in Nowshera

A policeman, escorting a polio team, was killed when unidentified persons sprayed him with bullets in Nizampur village in Nowshera on Wednesday and fled, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

According to reports, Maqsood, son of Umar, was providing security to the team when he was gunned down.

The deceased, who was 35 years old, belonged to Kheshgi area.

On Tuesday, a Levies constable who was guarding a polio vaccination team, was killed in a brazen gun attack in the Arkot area in Matta tehsil of Swat.

According to Swat District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Umar, the incident occurred when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the security personnel guarding the vaccination team. 

Levies official, Abdul Kabir, was critically injured in the attack and embraced martyrdom at the scene. The police were investigating the incident with no arrest made yet.

Following the assault, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
