Record increase has been witnessed in the cases being filed in consumer protection courts in Lahore as 500 to 600 cases are being filed daily, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Apart from that, 2011 cases are pending in these courts.
The Consumer Act had been enacted in 2005 under which consumer courts were set up in 2007.
However, only one judge is available for the hearing of 500 to 600 cases daily which makes it an uphill task for him. Resultantly, around 100 to 125 cases could be heard on a single day.
The lawyers as well as the petitioners have appealed to the government to increase the number of judges so that the cases could be decided on time.
