Imran Khan is facing military trial, says Aleema Khan

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan said on Monday that her brother was facing military trial, not a civil trial.

Speaking at a press conference at Dahgal Checkpoint along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and other leaders of the embattled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Aleema said she was here to covey Imran Khan’s message to the media.

Quoting Imran Khan, she said he was not being provided the facilities he was entitled to. She said no one was being allowed to meet Imran Khan and he was not even being given books. She said that media persons who come inside the jail to cover Iman Khan’s trial are not allowed to speak to him. She said the judge who was conducting his trial was not free; a colonel of the Pakistan Army was dictating him orders, which he was receiving from Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Sharing Imran Khan’s thoughts on Afghanistan, Aleema said he was of the view that Afghanistan was being targeted through a false-flag operation. She said that a bomb was dropped on Afghanistan and then a bomb was dropped on the Pakistani territory. She quoted Imran Khan as saying that innocent Pakistani people and soldiers were losing lives in these incidents.

She said when Imran Khan was told that MPAs and MNAs have gathered outside the jail, he said they should sit with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, talk to him and take care of the flood-affected areas. She said Imran Khan was of the view that PTI-backed Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai should go with a peace delegation and find a solution through talks.

Aleema said that Imran Khan was of the view that several cases were filed against him, but he would seek justice from courts only. She said Imran Khan stated that PTI’s mandate was stolen in the Feb 8, 2024 General Elections, but his party sill moved the courts and the Election Commission of Pakistan. She said a Commonwealth report confirmed vote rigging in the Feb 8 General Elections, but Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja did not take any action on the report. She said the CEC deserved to be tried under Article of the Constitution.

Aleema said Imran Khan was of the view that the rulers passed the 26th Constitutional Amendment so that the incumbent rulers could to convert all national institutions into their puppets and sideline him from the Pakistani political scene. She said Imran Khan was of the view that Liaquat Chattha, former Commissioner of Rawalpindi, told the truth that PTI was winning. She said Imran Khan clearly said that former chief justice of Supreme Court Qazi Faez Isa and CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja were leading the campaign for passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said all these cases against Imran Khan were baseless. He said that Imran Khan said in his message for the people that they should focus on “real freedom”.

He said that securing Imran Khan’s release from jail was a matter of responsibility. Referring to the PTI’s Peshawar Rally, Gandapur said the PTI needed to show strength to get decisions in its favour. He said that entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would join the PTI rally in Peshawar. He said that he did not meet Imran Khan, but he would receive his instructions.

Gandapur said the law was helpless, decisions were coming in written format, and no one would be spared. Everyone will face the consequences, even those left the movement. He said that everyone would come to the Peshawar rally. He said the PTI would get decisions in its favour by force. He said the PTI would prefer resistance over reconciliation. However, he said, the PTI would run its resistance movement within the constitutional limits.

Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar said the case against the PTI founder and his wife was once again progressing rapidly. He said that two witnesses were cross-examined and one of the witnesses presented was false witness. He said that this case collapsed today.

He said the strange thing about this case against the PTI founder was that prosecution was done in installments. He said no date was given in the Qadir Trust case in seven months, but Imran Khan had been boldly facing charges one after the other. He said that Imran Khan’s legal team had been seeing this pattern for the last several month, when Imran Khan was in Attock Jail. He said that Imran Khan had appealed to the Chief Justice to fix the cases. He said that there had been eight months in Toshakhana II and no case was being fixed.

Today, the founder was very concerned about why the cases were not being fixed after they were filed.
