The decision came a day after Lahore High Court during hearing a case regarding smog in Punjab had warned Punjab government to close the schools by December 20 or otherwise LHC would pass a verdict in this regard.

However, the Punjab government has decided to shut the schools from Dec 23 allowing tow more educational days in the week.

Meanwhile, NCOC has decided that winter vacations at schools in the country will start from January 3.

However, the decision to announce vacations has been left up to the provincial governments in the areas where there is extreme cold and fog
