Two Pakistani students hailed as heroes for kind act in China

Two Pakistani students from Gannan Medical University in China, Yousaf Khan and Muhammad Rafeeullah Jawaad, have received widespread recognition for their quick thinking and kindness after saving the life of an elderly man who experienced a medical emergency at a railway station in Shanghai.

The incident occurred early on February 7 at Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station. While traveling through the city, Yousaf and Jawaad noticed an elderly man lying unconscious on the ground. Realizing the severity of the situation, they rushed to his aid, discovering that he was unresponsive, struggling to breathe, and had a faint pulse, with his lips turning blue, indicating he was in critical condition.

Without hesitation, Yousaf began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, while Jawaad kept a close watch on the man's condition. After four rounds of CPR, the elderly man began to regain consciousness and started breathing again. The students remained with him until an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital for further treatment.

Their swift and skilled response was praised by bystanders, police officers, and medical staff present at the scene. Their bravery, calmness, and medical knowledge played a key role in saving the man's life, as reported.

Yousaf and Jawaad, both from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, are studying clinical medicine at Gannan Medical University in southern China.

Reflecting on the experience, Jawaad credited their university's focus on ethics and moral values for motivating them to assist others. He emphasized that their medical education had prepared them to handle emergencies. Yousaf, who performed CPR for the first time, expressed a sense of pride and fulfillment in having saved a life, remarking that it is the duty of every doctor and medical student to act promptly in such situations.
