PEPRA extends electricity subsidy for industry

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the government's application for the extension in Industrial Support Package of subsidized electricity tariff, reported 24News HD TV channel on Thursday.  

The package has been extended till June 30, 2022. The application of the K-electric has also been approved for the subsidy package. The NEPRA has sent its decision to the power division for notification in this regard. 

According to a statement issued by the NEPRA, the extension will be implementable for all distribution companies including the K-electric. The NEPRA says it does not have any objection to the extension of subsidized power tariffs for industrial users.  

The authority has estimated Rs26 billion for the subsidy package which will last until June 30,  2022 after the extension. 

The government had announced the Industrial Support Package. According to the subsidized power tariff, the electricity will cost Rs8 per unit instead of Rs12.96 per unit to the industrial consumers.
