The Sindh government is set to present its budget for the financial year 2026–27 on Monday, with the total outlay expected to exceed Rs3.5 trillion, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who also holds the provincial finance portfolio, will present the budget during a session of the assembly scheduled to begin at 2pm.
Before the budget is tabled in the assembly, the Sindh Cabinet is expected to meet to review and formally approve the budget proposals for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to budget estimates, the provincial government has proposed allocating Rs2.56 trillion for non-development expenditure, which will account for a significant portion of total spending.
The proposed budget allocation is expected to cover salaries, pensions, administrative costs and other recurring government expenses.
The government is also considering a substantial reduction in development spending. Under the proposed budget, the overall development programme is expected to be reduced from Rs1.018 trillion to Rs720 billion.
Sources familiar with the budget proposals said no new development schemes are likely to be included in the upcoming fiscal year.
Instead, the government is expected to focus on the completion and continuation of ongoing projects while maintaining fiscal discipline amid economic challenges.
