Section 144 imposed in Quetta amid security threats

The Balochistan Home Department has imposed Section 144 in Quetta for one month, enforcing a range of restrictions to maintain law and order, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

According to an official notification, the restrictions include a ban on the display and use of weapons, double riding on motorcycles, tinted windows, and unregistered vehicles.

Authorities have also prohibited all forms of public gatherings, including rallies and processions involving five or more people, under the enforcement of Section 144.

In a notable measure, the government has additionally imposed a ban on covering faces in public places during this period.

The notification states that the restrictions will take immediate effect, and strict legal action will be taken against those found violating the orders.

According to 24NewsHD TV, the Home Department Balochistan advisor Babar Yousafzai said that the restrictions were introduced in response to concerns over possible actions by extremist elements and outlawed organisations.

He warned that any attempt at “adventurism” by banned groups would be met with a strong and decisive response.

According to officials, security forces and law enforcement agencies have completed all necessary preparations and have been fully deployed across the city to deal with any untoward situation.

Babar Yousafzai said the measures were aimed at maintaining peace and stability, ensuring public safety, and preventing any disruption to law and order.

In a post on X, he said security agencies were on high alert to counter any possible activity by groups referred to by authorities as “Fitna al-Khawarij” and “Fitna al-Hindustan”.
