♦ New Zealand betrayed cricket by cancelling the series with Pakistan just minutes before starting a match. It was a one-sided announcement to cancel the tour of Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan made a contact with his counterpart in New Zealand and told her that there was no problem with security in Pakistan. But, he did not get a positive answer from the other side. The New Zealand team would return home in a chartered plane tomorrow.
That was a conspiracy of some hidden hands against Pakistan, there was no need to tell who was behind it. Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed termed the cancellation of the New Zealand tour a conspiracy. He said they had no security threat but Indian media was spewing poisonous propaganda. On a question about resignation, he became aggressive.
♦ New Zealand Prime Minister said that the safety of her players was paramount and she was in favour of the cancellation of the tour for the protection of players. She supported the decision of the Kiwi Board. Anyhow, she thanked to Pakistan for hosting the New Zealand cricket team.
♦ Maryam Nawaz taunted Prime Minister Imran Khan for his claim to make respect the green passport. Rana Sanaullah said it was highly shameful that the New Zealand team had returned without playing but the government was shameless. The government don’t care about its dignity, and no one wanted to attend the phone of Imran Khan, he said.
♦ PCB Chairman Rameez Raja announced to take up the matter in International Cricket Board. He said that on the matter New Zealand would face the ICC. He said what world was New Zealand living in? he said not to share anything was a regretful act.
♦ Pakistan cricketers strongly reacted to the issue. Pakistani cricket team captain Babar Azam said that he was proud of its security agencies. Javed Miandad said PCB failed to elaborate its stance on New Zealand, this decision was a failure of the board. Shoaib Akhtar said Pakistan was shocked by this decision. Waqar Younis said today was an unfortunate day for cricket.
♦ The Pakistan-England cricket series has also become in doubt. England Cricket Board announced that it would decide on the visit to Pakistan in the next 24 to 48 hours. The English team is scheduled to visit Pakistan next month to play two T20s.
♦ Efforts become fruitful, the United Kingdom removed Pakistan from the Red List. Pakistan remained on Britain's red list for five months.
♦ The government has come up with a new formula to increase the electricity bill. President Arif Ali signed the ordinance to increase the electricity bill. Non-filers' bills will be subject to five to thirty-five per cent advance income tax. Five thousand will be taxed on a bill of ten thousand and thirty-five per cent on a bill of seventy-five thousand or more.
♦ Govt fails to control the inflation as inflation rate surged to 14%. The price of 20Kg flour bag increased by Rs20; Sugar by Rs1.32, Chicken Rs7.30 per KG and eggs by Rs5.39 per dozen. The price of vanaspati ghee reached Rs345 per KG after seeing an increase of Rs2.45.
♦ Punjab govt announces a meagre increase of Rs27 for labourers. Increases monthly allowance of grade 1 to 4 employees from Rs450 to Rs900.
♦ The petroleum prices increased 159 percent in 15 months. From June 2020, petrol prices see an increase of Rs48.78, High-Speed Diesel Rs39.89, Ligh Diesel Rs52.55 and Kerosene Oil Rs56.70.
♦ China asked Pakistan to provide foolproof security after the Dassu incident. The Chinese embassy has contacted the interior ministry to seek bulletproof vehicles and high profile wireless sets.
