Petroleum Minister, World Bank discuss gas sector reforms

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Thursday held a meeting with Ms Bolorma Amgabazar, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, to discuss ongoing and future reforms aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the country’s gas sector.

During the meeting, the World Bank country director acknowledged that the Petroleum Division had successfully resolved the liquefied natural gas (LNG) surplus issue, terming it a challenging task. She said addressing the LNG problem was not easy and appreciated the government’s efforts in managing the situation.

Ali Pervaiz Malik thanked the World Bank for recognizing the steps taken by the government and said the views and support of international partners such as the World Bank were vital for implementing sustainable policy reforms.

Both sides exchanged views on structural reforms in Pakistan’s gas sector, including measures to enhance efficiency and long-term sustainability. Ms Amgabazar informed the minister that the World Bank was preparing a comprehensive roadmap for gas sector reforms.

The World Bank also expressed its willingness to cooperate with Pakistan in reforming the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sector and in strengthening the capacity of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the meeting was told.
