GTA 6 to introduce custom content and creator-driven experiences?
A new report suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 could feature customizable game environments, user-generated content, and external intellectual property, potentially allowing creators to add their own assets and experiences to the game.
Rockstar Games has reportedly engaged in discussions with popular Fortnite and Roblox creators, exploring ways to integrate custom content into GTA 6. Both Fortnite and Roblox have built thriving ecosystems around creator-driven content and brand collaborations, making it likely that Rockstar is looking to follow a similar path.
According to a Digiday report published Monday, Rockstar aims to position GTA 6 as the next big metaverse-style platform, encouraging creators to build unique experiences within the game. The company has allegedly been in talks with top gaming content creators and established GTA modders to explore potential collaborations. While financial details remain unclear, it's common for creators in similar ecosystems to earn a share of in-game purchases linked to their custom content.
User-generated content is not new to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. GTA 5 Online has long supported role-playing servers and extensive modding, even leading Rockstar to acquire FiveM, a popular modding platform, in 2023. Over the years, GTA 5 Online has evolved into a live-service model, generating consistent revenue through in-game purchases such as vehicles, real estate, and other virtual assets.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Rockstar has yet to officially confirm its plans for the online component of Grand Theft Auto 6.
