Pakistan confirms second coronavirus death in KP

Another coronavirus patient died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the toll to two nationwide.

A 36-year-old patient was under treatment at Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar and passed away on Wednesday night. The patient belonged to Hangu district of KP.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra confirmed the death of the patient on his twitter account. He said: “Sadly, a second patient in LRH Peshawar, a 36 yr old, from Hangu, has also passed away, from the coronavirus.”

Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday confirmed the first death of coronavirus patient in the province.

Provincial Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra confirmed the death on his Twitter account. In his earlier tweet, he said: “Sad to report one patient who passed away in Mardan.”

The patient was identified as Sadaat Khan (50) and he was under treatment at Mardan Medical Complex. He recently returned from Saudi Arabia. He was on a ventilator. Doctors did their best but to no avail.

Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza also confirmed the first death of the country. In a tweet, he said: “With deep regret, I confirm the death of first Pakistani due to #coronavirus. A 50 yr old male from Mardan recently returned from Umra, developed fever, cough & breathing difficulty and tested +ve for coronavirus. Contacts are being screened. Our condolences to the family.”

Coronavirus cases reach 304

The number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan has risen to 304 as more cases reported from Sindh, Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

Four of these cases have been reported recovered while two deaths have been reported. According to the Pakistan government portal at 11:22pm, Sindh registered 36 more cases today taking their tally to 208. Punjab recorded seven new cases with the total stands at 33 whereas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported three new cases with total at 19.

A big jump was recorded in virus cases Gilgit Baltistan which reached 13 with the addition of 10 cases today. An increase of seven cases witnessed in Balochistan which stands at 23, cases in Federal Capital rose to seven after addition of three new ones and Azad Jammu and Kashmir recorded its first case today.
