Jan Sher Khan accorded historic welcome at GCU Summit

Universities’ students on Thursday accorded a historic welcome to Jan Sher Khan from the main gate of Government College University Lahore to its clock tower as the squash legend arrived to attend the First All Pakistan Summit for Students’ Societies.
Hundreds of students participating in the summit from different universities stood on both sides of the road and welcomed the legend.
The GC University also named its Squash Complex after Jan Sher Khan in recognition of his tremendous services to Pakistan. Jan Sher Khan along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Asghar Zaidi inaugurated the “Jan Sher Khan Squash Complex”.
Punjab Local Government and Community Development Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal was also present on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Jan Sher Khan said squash courts and other facilities should be established in all educational institutions of Pakistan from schools to universities. He said Pakistan is full of talent which needs to be tapped by providing ample opportunities. He thanked students for their love, saying that he is feeling great to be among them.
Jan Sher Khan said sports is a must for a healthy mind, so all students should participate in them. He cherished the great welcome he received from students.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi announced establishing a sports school at its Kala Shah Campus which would act as a nursery to produce sportsmen. He said this school would also provide the best sports facilities, stipends and training those young boys and girls from 8 to 12 years who have talent in any sports.
He said the motto of GCU Summit is “Strive for excellence, lead the nation”. He said the model of carrot and stick policy is over now, now teachers and parents need to inspire the students and children with their own excellence.
Noor-ul-Amin Mengal highlighted the par excellence performance of Jan Sher Khan in squash. He also promised to support the establishment of a state-of-the-art Gymnasium at GCU.
