Pakistan records sharp decline in corona cases

There has been a sharp decline in the number of new coronavirus cases in Pakistan, as only 1,579 people tested positive and 46 died of the virus during the past 24 hours (Saturday).

Saturday’s infections were the lowest number of daily cases in months, compared to between 5,000 and 6,000 in May and June.

According to the updated data released by National Command and Operation Centre on Sunday morning, the number of coronavirus cases currently stands at 263,496 with the death toll reaching 5,568.

There are 53,652 active cases in the country and 204,276 people have fully recovered from the infection. However, 1,540 patients are still in a critical condition and undergoing treatment in the intensive care units of different hospitals of the country.

On the other hand, the number of tests conducted so far in the country has reached 17,21,660 after another 22,559 people were tested for the deadly virus on Saturday.

Sindh tops the list with the most number of reported cases which has reached 112,118 in the province. It has also recorded 1,974 coronavirus-related deaths.

Punjab, meanwhile, has recorded the most number of deaths which currently stands at 2,079. It is second in terms of the officially reported cases with 89,793 people being infected by the virus.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which was experiencing the most number of deaths in the initial phase of the pandemic, managed to reverse the trend. A total of 1,139 people have died of the virus in the province so far, making it the third most-affected region of the country. It has reported 31,890 coronavirus cases.

The figures for the other regions are: Islamabad 14,576 cases and 157 deaths, Balochistan 11,424 cases and 131 deaths, Azad Kashmir 1,888 cases and 47 deaths and Gilgit-Baltistan 1,807 cases and 41 deaths.

There is no patient on a ventilator in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Balochistan.
