Parvez promises to address journalists’ problems

Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has said that he solved journalists’ problems in the past and he would not leave them alone now.

Talking to a delegation of journalists headed by International Federation of Journalists Secretary Jeremy Dear at his residence on Thursday, Elahi assured the delegation of every possible help in solving journalists’ problems. “We are aware of journalists’ problems and have always stood by them. For their economic stability, the government is trying to clear arrears of the media houses at the earliest,” he said.

Dear exchanged views with Elahi about the problems faced by journalists in Pakistan and expressed his reservations about their safety and financial conditions. He said that present laws should in no way affect the freedom of expression.

During the meeting, Elahi talked to Provincial Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and Information Secretary Raja Jahangir and asked them to solve media persons’ problems immediately in consultation with PFUJ Secretary General Rana Azeem.
