Cricket umpire died in bee attack during match in India

A senior cricket umpire in India, Mank Gupta, lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of honeybees during a local match at the Inau Super Stadium in Kanpur, 24NewsHD reported on Friday.

Gupta, who had served nearly 30 years in umpiring, was associated with the Kanpur Cricket Association and served on the state panel of umpires, making him one of the most experienced officials in the region.

His brother, Amit Kumar Gupta, told Indian media that the incident occurred during a drinks break when a swarm of bees suddenly attacked everyone present.

The attack also affected several players and fellow umpires.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Mank lost his balance and fell, after which the bees swarmed him, fatally injuring him.

Fellow umpire Jagdish Sharma confirmed that despite efforts to flee, Mank could not outrun the bees due to his age and succumbed to the attack.

The cricket community in Kanpur and across Uttar Pradesh has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of one of its most respected and seasoned umpires.
