ECP restores membership of 23 lawmakers after submission of financial statements

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the membership of 23 additional lawmakers after they submitted mandatory details of their assets and liabilities, including those of their families, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. 

According to the Election Commission, the memberships of 23 lawmakers have been reinstated after they complied with the requirement of submitting their asset declarations.

Among them, the memberships of 11 National Assembly members, including Saira Afzal Tarar, have been restored.

The ECP also reinstated the memberships of two senators, including Federal Minister Musadik Malik.

At the provincial level, the ECP restored the memberships of three members each from the Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies, as well as three members of the Punjab Assembly.

In addition, the membership of Malik Naeem Khan Bazai, a member of the Balochistan Assembly, has also been reinstated.

The Election Commission had earlier suspended the memberships of 159 lawmakers for failing to submit their financial statements within the stipulated timeframe.

So far, the memberships of 113 lawmakers have been restored after compliance.

However, the ECP confirmed that the memberships of 46 lawmakers remain suspended due to their continued failure to submit the required financial declarations.
