Lesco’s double standard in installing AMI meters exposed

A double standard has emerged in the Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) installation of AMI single-phase smart meters, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

According to official directives, LESCO has approved the replacement of old electricity meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters at Punjab government departments and institutions. 

However, ordinary consumers whose faulty or defective meters need replacement will continue to receive conventional static meters instead of smart ones.

A directive has been issued regarding the installation of modern AMI smart meters across Punjab government offices, and a notification has been sent to all relevant offices for the rollout of AMI smart meters.

As part of the plan, government electricity connections in LESCO's Northern, Central and Eastern circles will be upgraded to AMI smart meters. The installation campaign will also cover government institutions in Okara, South Circle, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Kasur.
