Armaghan's father Kamran arrested in high-profile Mustafa murder case

Karachi police arrested Kamran Asghar Qureshi, the father of the high-profile Mustafa Amir murder case’s prime accused, Armaghan, during a raid on his defence bungalow, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Thursday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aneel Haider confirmed that the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) recovered 200 grams of crystal meth (ice), an unlicensed 9mm pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition from Kamran’s possession.

A case has been registered against Kamran for illegal arms possession, and further investigation into his drug trafficking activities has begun, the SSP confirmed.

Criminal past and police threats

Police sources revealed that Kamran Asghar Qureshi had threatened Special Public Prosecutor Zulfiqar Ali Arain and senior police officers, warning them, “I will see you all.”

Additionally, he repeatedly caused disruptions in court, shouting to pressure the judiciary and even attempting to forcefully enter court premises by threatening security officials.

Given his suspected ties to money laundering and drug trafficking networks, authorities feared that Kamran Qureshi might flee the country. A police report had earlier stressed the “urgent need” for his arrest.

Terrorism links under scrutiny

On March 10, 2025, investigators expanded their probe into Armaghan and his father Kamran’s potential ties to banned organisations.

Special Public Prosecutor Zulfiqar Ali Arain issued strict orders to conduct forensic analysis of all recovered evidence, including illegal firearms, walkie-talkies, digital safes, and multiple identity cards.

Authorities have been directed to cross-check intelligence reports from Gulzar and Darakhshan police stations, tracing any extremist connections.

Additionally, law enforcement agencies are investigating the role of DHA’s security head and property owner in monitoring Armaghan’s criminal activities.

Forensic report of Mustafa's exhumation

Meanwhile, forensic reports following Mustafa Amir’s exhumation shattered earlier speculations.

The Industrial Analytical Centre at Karachi University used gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to confirm no traces of toxic substances in Mustafa’s body at the time of death.

Forensic experts collected 11 tissue samples, including burnt remains, tongue, palate, and neck. Some samples were preserved for future reference, while others will be disposed of within 30 days.

Tracing murder trail

Mustafa Amir was reported missing on January 6, and his mother filed a report the next day. However, the case took a shocking turn when a ransom call was received on January 25.

A police raid on February 9 led to a violent standoff and the arrest of Armaghan. Initially, Armaghan claimed he had dumped Mustafa’s body in Malir but later retracted his statement.

Investigations revealed that Armaghan and his accomplice Sheraz brutally murdered Mustafa after a dispute over a girl named Marsha Shahid. They then burnt his body inside a car in Balochistan’s Hub area.

Interpol has been contacted to trace and record Marsha Shahid’s testimony in the United States.
