Twin cities avert major terror attack as two terrorists held

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Thursday successfully thwarted a major terrorist plot in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, arresting two high-profile terrorists, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the arrested individuals, identified as Hamza and Romaan, were involved in a previous attack on I-9 police station and had been actively planning terrorist activities in the twin cities.

The arrests were made during an intelligence-based operation near Mughal Market, Rawalpindi, as authorities acted swiftly to neutralize the looming threat. The terrorists had completed the recce of potential targets, including Ehsaas Centers, where they intended to carry out attacks.

During the raid, hand grenades, explosives, detonators, safety fuse wires, and other terror-related equipment were recovered. Investigations revealed that the suspects were in direct contact with a key commander of Fitna-ul-Khawarij in Afghanistan.

The CTD has registered a case against the terrorists and launched a further investigation. In their initial confession, the suspects admitted to carrying out the A9 police station attack using a hand grenade a few months ago.
