Lahore tops global pollution index once again

Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, has once again been declared the most polluted city in the world, with its Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring to 292, a level categorized as hazardous for public health, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

The city’s air quality has deteriorated sharply due to heavy smog, prompting authorities to urge residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and take protective measures, especially during early morning and evening hours.

According to the Smog Monitoring Center, the spike in pollution levels has been attributed to eastern winds carrying polluted particles into the city.

The situation is further aggravated by low morning temperatures, which cause pollutants to remain trapped in the air for extended periods.

In response, authorities have announced that anti-smog guns will be deployed in the most affected areas in an effort to mitigate pollution levels.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has stated that there is no forecast for rain in Lahore in the coming days — a factor that could have otherwise helped clear the smog and improve visibility.

Environmental experts continue to call for long-term measures to curb emissions from vehicles, factories, and crop burning, warning that the current conditions pose serious risks to respiratory health and overall public safety.
