Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to issue a notification of removing Raja Riaz as leader of the opposition, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
PTI leader and party’s chief whip Malik Amir Dogar made this demand through a letter written to National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
The PTI asked the NA speaker to take immediate steps to replace opposition leader.
Dogar said that Lahore High Court, in its order on February 20, had suspended NA speaker’s notification of denotifying PTI MNAs. He further said that being the biggest party in opposition, the slot of opposition leader was it prerogative.
“As directed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, I am demanding, through this letter, immediate change of opposition leader,” he said.
Addressing the NA speaker, Dogar said as per NAB law, head of the anti-graft watchdog is appointed after consultations between leader of the house and leader of the opposition.
“Now, after resignation of NAB chairman, new head of the Bureau can only be appointed after consultations with new opposition leader from PTI,” said Aamir Dogar.
