Chenab water level surges after India releases water

Water levels in the Chenab River have risen sharply after India released water upstream, prompting flood warnings at several locations across Punjab, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday. 

According to the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), the water flow at Head Marala reached 168,478 cusecs, while 125,110 cusecs were recorded at Head Khanki and 114,070 cusecs at Head Qadirabad, where low-level flooding has been reported.

On the Ravi River, 34,000 cusecs of water were recorded at Nullah Aik, 33,000 cusecs at Kot Naina and 18,483 cusecs at Nullah Dek.

Authorities said these areas are experiencing moderate flooding.

The FFD said water levels had risen significantly at several points along the Chenab and Ravi rivers following the upstream release of water from India.

Residents living in low-lying areas have been advised to evacuate immediately, while district administrations and emergency response agencies have been directed to remain on high alert and take all necessary precautionary measures.
