No relief from intense heat in sight, warns Met Office

Nowadays everyone in Pakistan is feeling the impact of the heatwave across the country and wondering, “when will it rain?” 

In an exclusive interview with 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday, Meteorological Department Deputy Director Irfan Virk provides some much-needed clarity.

According to him, the heatwave will be in full swing for the next three to four days. “The temperature in the central and upper regions will be 5 to 7 degrees higher than normal and this will only increase further south. The temperature will remain high in the coming days and is not expected to cool off yet,” he added.

Moreover, dusty winds may blow during this time, however no rain is expected yet, Virk maintained, adding the earliest they can expect rain is on May 25 and 26, however there is no expectation of lasting relief from the intense heat.

This heatwave is now getting longer as the temperature is still expected to be high in the first week of June. As a result, a hailstorm system may form due to severe heatwaves.

According to Mr Virk, this is a sign of the future as due to climate change the weather conditions in this region will continue to be severe.
