PPP, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and the PML-Q have decided to support the PML-N candidate in the election for a Senate seat in the Punjab Assembly (PA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Sources told the 24News TV channel that the PA Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan contacted the allied parties for the votes.

The speaker, they added, contacted IPP’s Shoaib Siddiqui, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shafay Hussain and PPP leaders for their support in the election.

PML-N’s Hafiz Abdul Kareem and PTI’s Ijaz Minhas will compete for the Senate seat.

Following the denial of reserved seats to the opposition party, the PTI, the House now consists of 341, not 371, members.

And for a candidate to win the seat, he will require 171 votes.

Following the allied parties’ decision to throw their weight behind the PML-N’s candidate, the candidate now enjoys the support of 236 MPAs, while his opponent, a PTI candidate, enjoys the backing of only 103 MPAs.
